Uruguay 1950 World Cup Final Retro Football Shirt
Uruguay 1950 World Cup Final Retro Football Shirt. The ‘final’ of the 1950 World Cup if there was one was what all finals should have. A massive crowd; wonderful football, intrigue and suspense. Even today the victory by the Celestes (sky blues) over Brazil ranks as one of the great upsets in football; a ceremonial talk by the Governor of Rio celebrating the Brazilian victory before the game upsetting the Uruguayan contingent to the degree that when Brazil did score the Uruguayan captain, Obdulio Varela, strode manfully and ruefully to George Reader, the referee, argued pointlessly about the goal and still the crowd before announcing to his team mates ‘Now it’s time to win!’ And win they did; the defeat silencing the quarter of a million massed in the Maracana.

Russia 1960s Retro Football Shirt
Russia 1960s Retro Football Shirt. CCCP 1956 Olympic Champions. Worn by the great Eduard Streltsov who played 38 times for the Soviet national team, scoring 24 goals. After refusing to leave his beloved Moscow Torpedo for one of the Soviet army teams Streltsov was banned from all football and sent into a labour camp for 7 years. His legendary status was complete when in 1965 in his first season back in football he led Moscow Torpedo to only their second Championship.

Scotland 1900 Rosebery Retro Football Shirt
Scotland 1900 Rosebery Retro Football Shirt. Scotland have not always played in the distinctive dark blue shirts we associate with the team. On at least nine occasions between 1881 and 1951 they played in the primrose and pink racing colours of racehorse owner Archibald Philip Primrose, Lord Rosebery. The 5th Earl Rosebery was a patron of the game and Hon. President of the SFA and of Hearts F.C. His colours were first worn in 1881, and then in 1900, 1901, 1905, 1906, 1907, 1908 and 1909. They were revived in 1949, and last used in 1951 against France. Perhaps the most noteable occasion the Rosebery colours were worn was in 1900. Scotland defeated England 4-1. Lord Rosebery told the Scotland captain Jacky Robertson, “I have never seen my colours so well sported since Ladas won the Derby.” Queen’s Park’s Robert S. McColl (who went on to set up a chain of sweet shops, earning the nickname ‘Toffee Bob’) scored a hat-trick.
